Iranians start holy Ramadan on May 27

The holy fasting month of Ramadan starts on Saturday, May 27 in Iran.

An official at the moon-sighting committee of the Supreme Leader’s Office has announced that the holy fasting month of Ramadan has started on Saturday, May 27 in Iran.

Some 150 moon-sighting groups were instructed to sight the Ramadan crescent nationwide, Ali-Reza Movahednejad announced during a press conference.

Movahednejad also noted that astronomers believe the holy month will last for 30 days in the country this year.

The beginning of Ramadan may be different from country to country depending on the state of the moon.

Since the new moon is not in the same state at the same time globally, the beginning and ending dates of the holy month is dependent on each location’s lunar sightings.

Consequently, due to the cycle of the moon, Ramadan dates may vary in different countries, but typically only by one day.
